27 Dresses/What Happens In Vegas/In Her Shoes (DVD) Review

I would call this DVD a mixture of fun and love. Sometimes love affairs can bring fun, and sometimes they make you shed tears. These three films have all this. I think, any woman will find a moment or episode in this or that film in which she might recognize herself.

About the Film
The director of the film, Anne Fletcher, has started her bright career with the success of the film Step Up. After two years of its release, Fletcher was already known as a perspective director and an expert in comedies and melodramas. She decided to start working on a humorous melodrama with the script written by Aline Brosh McKenna, and Katherine Heigl and James Marsden starring.
Both actors seem to be a good couple. But there is one big ‘BUT’: everyone states that it is very hard to work with Katherine Heigl because she has very high self-appraisal, which is also strengthened by her mother who accompanies her daughter at every filming. The character of Heigl is responsible for organisation of wedding ceremonies, and she has already organised 27 of them (that is where the title of the film comes from). However, she is still a single woman. She is in sympathy with her boss (Edward Burns), and at the same time she meets a charming writer (in fact, he is a journalist who writes newspaper colons about women), whose role is played by James Marsden. Then a light-minded sister of the heroine appears, and the boss of Heigl’s heroine falls in love with her. Poor Heigl, she is standing on the crossroads and she still has to open people’s eyes, lose and again find her happiness, and turn out to be the most candid woman. Overall, everything happens according to the laws of genre.
Plot and Actors
In general, the plot written by Aline Brosh McKenna is developing very well. It does not stay on one place and gives the audience food for thought, revealing the essence of the characters to us. This is the biggest advantage of the film, as for me. Every character of the film receives

As I have already said, the characters are developed very well. Another question is how the actors managed to play their roles. As for Katherine Heigl, I am glad that she did not try to protrude very often with her look plainly saying that she is a genius actress and audience and critics do not understand a lot in acing. In most cases, she really makes us believe that she is a nice lonely woman who doesn’t see an inch before her nose. But we know that happy end is waiting for her, and tender emotion – for us.
enough attention. You can feel what they feel, and you clearly see their advantages and disadvantages. From time to time, you may even start thinking how you would act in this or that situation. Thus, the fans of this genre can have a good time in front of the screen, while watching the peripeteias of a woman’s search for love. Of course, some may see 27 Dresses as another one-time sweet family movie. I recommend you to watch this film in good mood because it may make you nervous by its lusciousness (but it’s a typical feature of a romantic comedy).

James Marsden plays distinctly, but without a spark in his eyes, as if something restrains him. However, his smile and pure speech will certainly attract a whole women audience of the film. As for me, I also liked Edward Burns, perhaps, because his character has more cold blood and reasonableness. He perfectly fits the role of the serious boss, and his character is marked by not see the world through pink glasses, he is far from romanticism before meeting the heroine of Malin Akerman. At the moment of shooting 27 Dresses, Akerman was treated as a good actress of romantic comedies (from The Heartbreak Kid, Heavy Petting). And again she received the role of so to say silly little thing who can perform somewhat childish actions. I should say that there are a lot of heroines of such type, and Malin is not the beast as well as not the worst of them.

About the Film
When I was watching this comedy for the 1st time, I did not expect it to produce such impression on me. I thought it would be another American comedy for one watch. But it turned out to be much better.
At the beginning, we see two stories of two main characters, narrating us how they appeared in Vegas. Each of them had his own way of getting there, and they accidently meet. After this meeting, their life changes considerably: meeting, alcohol, wedding…a good start for an exciting story.

The movie has a lot of memorable and funny episodes. As for humour, by the way, there is enough if it in the film. And there is no this preoccupied with sex American humour you might think about. Everything is perceived very easily, and funny atmosphere is present during the whole film, nicely matching its interesting plot. When you watch the film for the 1st time, you are really interested how the relationships between the main characters will develop, what will be with their marriage, and what will happen in the end. The events develop in a usual way and have quite a sweet ending. Of course, happy end is predictable from the beginning, and it makes the film even more positive.
Director and Actors
What Happens In Vegas has been shot very well. I would not point out any extremely talented directors or script writers, but the film is of a high quality. The work of cameraman is visible indeed due to bright filming in general. The film is very beautiful and colorful. It also has some simple and melodious songs that create a light and easy background. In general, the film is not stressful, but on the contrary, very easy to watch. Besides, I should mention a couple of words about actors.
The interest to this film is surely so high because of the actors starring in it, in particular, Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz. Of course, they are irreproachable actors, though I should admit that did not respect them that much before watching this comedy. But Ashton really amazed me, his acting was wonderful, natural, and surely he looked very well:) Cameron Diaz also did a good job! In general, I should say that all actors of the film acted pretty naturally and realistically. But in my opinion, this movie is very much obliged to these two main characters. But for them, the film would lose more than a half of its audience.

About the Film
In Her Shoes is a modern melodrama with a shade of drama and comedy. This film turned out to be long and true-to-life. I liked a lot about the film, and, probably, I would like it even more, but to tell the truth, I did not like one actress, Toni Collette. There was something unpleasant and repulsive about her, and for some reason I did not entirely believed her acting, though she has a nice career, and she has already played numerous roles in a number of good films. Well, many men, many minds. Nevertheless, the film is rather nice: it demonstrates a very lifelike and touching story.
The movie shows us how one woman helps her sister in a tough moment, but the latter slept with her man and betrayed her sister, who was always ready to help. At this point, their roads are separated, and we see how two close sisters are gradually drifting apart and become nearly strangers to each other. A mean sister finds a letter in her father’s house, telling that her granny is alive. Then, the girl goes to her, and we witness a touching story, whose idea is very interesting and original. However, the film seems a bit lengthy to me.
Director and Actors
I was glad to see Shirley MacLaine in this film. Despite her advanced age, the actress still feels confident in front of the camera and acts wonderfully. I like this actress and the films with her starring. But speaking about this movie, I should say that it depends a lot on Cameron Diaz. Like the abovementioned films, In Her Shoes might have also lost a lot of viewers unless Cameron had played in it. As for me, I also like this actress, but not for her appearance. I think she looks a bit extraordinary in comparison with other film stars and beautiful models. Well, her look is not typical and common. But she is very talented. She has charm and fascination that make her such a sweet and nice woman. Her acting is great in this film. Moreover, one can call her heart and soul of the movie.
If Toni Collette were changed into another actress, I might like this film even more. But even if not, it is a good thing to watch at least once. Perhaps, its only disadvantage is its length. This point is addressed to the director, of course. I think, the film could have been done shorter and more showy. But I should admit that the director made a good decision to expand the genre of the movie. When I started watching it, I thought it would be another comedy, but the film turned out to be deeper and lifelike. This is its special appeal.

Conclusion

You can have a nice time, watching 27 Dresses with a loved person. You may not laugh a lot, despite its comedy genre, but you’ll certainly get a good supply of romance. This representative of romantic comedy is far from the worst one, so I recommend it. I think, you will especially like its end.
What Happens In Vegas is a nice comedy with professional actors. It is really pleasant to watch. You receive only positive emotions, the feeling of easiness, and a wish to watch this movie one more time.
In Her Shoes is very different from What Happens In Vegas. It has a real shade of drama, and this shade is shown well and appropriately. It has also the features of a comedy, but the presence of dramatic episodes makes film very interesting and worth attention of the audience. The film balances between the lives of two sisters and their grandmother. It shows us an interesting story revealing the feelings and emotions of its characters who lacked mother’s and granny’s love. We also witness a touching story of two sisters who were entirely different women.
